SHALL WE STUDY CREATIONISM, OR SOME REMARKS ON THE WESTERN EXPERIENCE. PART I

Abstract

Recently, there have been heard cautious offers to introduce the teaching of ideas of Genesis into school curricula to let pupils get training in critical thinking. The analysis of this proposal starts from specification of meanings of “faith”, “belief” and “knowledge”. Then the author suggests a review of logical relations between the concepts of faith and knowledge and shows that all possible variants have real conceptual equivalents in modern culture. So, this case and the rise of religious fundamentalism put under question the Enlightenment’s expectancies that religious outlook will pass away under the influence of scientific and technological progress.
