Abstract
Introduction. Modern technical civilisation is represented by a variety of temporal variations that coexist and are fundamentally intertwined. The purpose of the study is to search for and identify various ‘temporal movements’ in the technosphere and, without claiming to be exhaustive, considers some of the most significant temporal meanings around which different technical paradigms, ‘assembly points’ of technical reality, are formed. Methods. The author uses the phenomenological method, which allows for an eidetic reduction to various semantic foundations of time in technical reality. Scientific novelty of the research. The work analyses some temporal variations of technical reality. Results. The author emphasises that even in ancient times, there formed the idea that time imitates eternity and therefore technical tools and crafts (techne) are involved in a cycle of repetition and tradition. The machine is thus congruent with the ‘divine order,’ embedded in natural cycles and human activities, and involved in them. With the advent of automatic objects, primarily mechanical clocks, machine time is caught in the vise of expediency and profit; time is a resource that can be converted into virtually any other reality, and time becomes identical to a commodity. ‘Automatic time’ is captured by the logic of progress and expansion, heartlessly discarding any technical object that lags behind in terms of efficiency. Modern technical reality is complemented by the emergence of self-organising systems that tend towards self-regulation and self-learning, conditioned by the internal time regime. This internal time of technical systems not only launches memory and analysis programmes of previous steps/states, but also allows the system to make decisions on the choice of path, taking into account random factors. Conclusions. The self-tuning and adaptability of modern technical reality allows us to speak of the open nature of the technosphere in choosing its historical path.
