Abstract

This article addresses the interrelation of historiography and intellectual culture within the framework of Russia’s historical development. The first distinctive feature of the present study is that it offers a systematic and comprehensive analysis of these phenomena in the context of social development and social relations. The novelty of this approach lies in the fact that these phenomena have traditionally been examined primarily within the framework of knowledge in the humanities and the phenomenon of human activity. The second distinctive feature of the present study is its examination of historiography not only as a specialized historical discipline but also as a widespread sphere within the development of intellectual culture. This phenomenon found clear reflection in Russia’s history, since a range of retrospective methods was widely applied by various authors in the political, economic, literary-artistic, and other practical spheres. The article demonstrates the interdisciplinary character of historiography as a specialized historical discipline. This character lies in the methodological connection of historiography with philosophy and literary studies, which is reflected in the composition of existing historiographical sources. Taken together, the various types of these sources constitute the heritage of intellectual culture.
